Q. 1. Write a character-sketch of thief/Hari Singh. 

Ans. Hari Singh is a young lad of 15. He is an experienced thief and fairly successful hand. He is very expert in scanning his victim. He found Anil as his best victim. He knows a lot about the nature of the different people. He knows how to flatter and makes friends. He takes a new name every month so that the police and his former employers might not catch him. He does not know how to cook food but he prepares tea for Anil. He makes profit in purchasing the day's supplies. He stole money from Anil but his heart changes and returns. By the kindness of Anil he is transformed from a thief to a gentleman.

Ans. Anil is a young man of 25. He is tall and lean. He is kind and easy-going. He has a very big heart. He accepts the narrator who is a thief. The thief works for him. Anil treats him nicely. He teaches him how to read and write. The thief does small things for Anil. Anil brings a small bundle of notes one day. The thief steals it. But he comes back. Anil accepts the thief because the thief is now changed. Anil gives him a fifty-rupee note. Thus, Anil is a great man. He changes a thief into a good lad.
